FROM THE AIRPORT From Narita or Haneda Airport

Most overseas guests land at Narita or Haneda. There are two easy ways to reach Hakuba.

Airport → Tokyo Station → bullet train (fastest, all year)

Take the train or limousine bus from the airport to Tokyo Station, then follow "Tokyo to Hakuba by bullet train and bus" below.

Direct airport bus (winter only)

In winter, the Nagano Snow Shuttle runs direct from Narita and Haneda to Hakuba (approx. 5.5–6.5 hours, from around late December to March). There are no changes, and your ski or snowboard bag travels with you on the bus (a ¥750 surcharge applies per ski/snowboard bag; extra luggage can be added when you book). Some 2026–27 services are still awaiting final government approval, so please check fares and timetables on the official website before booking.

FROM TOKYO How to get to Hakuba from Tokyo

Times and fares are a guide as of October 2026. They change with the season, so please check each operator's official website before you travel.

Tokyo to Hakuba by bullet train and bus (fastest)

Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Nagano (approx. 80 min on the Kagayaki, 90 min on the Hakutaka; reserved seat approx. ¥8,500). From Nagano Station East Exit, take the Alpico express bus to Hakuba Station (approx. 1 hr 10 min – 2 hrs depending on the service, ¥2,900 per adult on the spring–autumn timetable). In winter some services require a reservation.

Shinjuku to Hakuba by highway bus (no changes)

Direct highway buses run from Busta Shinjuku to Hakuba. The daytime service takes about 5 hours 10 minutes, ¥5,200–7,000 per adult depending on the day and season.

By limited express Azusa

Take the Chuo Line limited express from Shinjuku to Matsumoto, then change to the Oito Line for Hakuba — about 4 hours in total. The 8:00 "Azusa 5" from Shinjuku runs through to Hakuba without a change, arriving around 11:40.
